Under a military escort, a Korean Air jetliner made an emergency landing at a B.C. military base Tuesday afternoon because of an incident on board.
According to reports, the plane was diverted because of a bomb threat.
The Canadian Forces said in a news release the Boeing 777 was travelling from Vancouver International Airport and was diverted to CFB Comox, on the east coast of Vancouver Island, at about 5:30 p.m.
A spokesperson for Canadian NORAD said that the jetliner was escorted by two American fighter jets.
"It was two F-15s from Portland, Ore. that conducted the intercept," Maj. Holly Apostoliuk told The Canadian Press.
Upon landing, the jetliner was surrounded by fire trucks and a bomb disposal unit, CTV Vancouver Island's Gord Kurbis reported.
Several ambulances were also dispatched, but passengers did not immediately leave the plane, Kurbis said.
There were 149 people on board the flight.
All emergency services at the base have been activated, the military said.
Alisa Gloag, a spokeswoman from Vancouver International Airport, said that the plane landed safely.
