They didn't even make it to their three-month anniversary.

Reality star Kim Kardashian, 31, and her NBA player husband, Kris Humphries, 26, are said to be parting ways after 72 days of marriage.

Radio host Ryan Seacrest, whose company produces Kardashian's reality show, confirmed the pending split on Twitter.

"Yes @kimkardashian is filing for divorce this morning," Seacrest wrote on his Twitter feed on Monday.

In a statement released on Monday, Kardashian said that the marriage had "not worked out as planned" but claimed the two would remain friends.

"After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage. I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision," she said in the statement. "I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."

According to documents filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday morning, Kardashian has requested each party pay their own court fees, E! News reports.

She has also requested that jewelry and "other personal effects" as well as "earring and accumulations" owned by Kardashian before, during and after the marriage be confirmed as separate property.

Kardashian tweeted on Monday that she was looking forward to Tuesday's opening of her fashion boutique in Las Vegas.

"We are so excited! Kardashian Khaos has arrived," said the message.

Meanwhile, Humphries told TMZ that he was devastated to learn Kardashian had filed for divorce and said he is "willing to do whatever it takes to make it work."

The couple married in Montecito, Calif., on Aug. 20. Their lavish wedding ceremony was taped and later televised as a reality TV special. Kardashian wore three Vera Wang dresses during the event and guests were treated to a six-foot, 10-layer wedding cake.

Media reports suggested Kardashian netted millions for allowing her wedding to be broadcast.

One New York Times reporter suggested Monday that TV coverage of the August ceremony was worth thousands of dollars for every hour she spent in her short-lived marriage.

"Kim Kardashian sold the rights to her wedding for $17.9 million. Her marriage lasted 72 days. That comes to a nifty $10,358.80 per hour," reporter Don Van Natta Jr., wrote on Twitter.

Should the split go forward, this would be the second divorce for Kardashian, who was previously married to a music producer. This was Humphries' first marriage.

Humphries has played for NBA teams in Utah, Toronto, Dallas and New Jersey.

With the NBA in the midst of a labour dispute, Humphries has not played professional basketball since the end of last season.

Kardashian appears on a number of reality TV shows that feature the purported day-to-day life of the reality star, her siblings and her parents.
