SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - Conservative Gail Shea is still the winner of the Egmont riding on Prince Edward Island in last week's federal election, but by a slightly smaller margin.

A justice of the P.E.I. Supreme Court conducted a recount of the ballots today after Liberal candidate Keith Milligan alleged a number of irregularities, including the name of a dead man being marked as having voted.

Election night results gave Shea the win by 62 votes.

The recount narrowed the victory to 55.

Shea is the first Conservative to capture a federal seat on the Island in more than 20 years.

She says the outcome of the recount is a relief, and now she can get down to business as the member of parliament for the riding.
