VIENNA, Austria - An Iranian diplomat says Tehran has given the U.N. nuclear agency a letter outlining a proposed swap of some of its enriched uranium for reactor fuel.

The letter follows up on a deal brokered by Turkey and Brazil with Iran last week.

The diplomat says the letter was handed over Wednesday by an Iranian delegation to Yukiya Amano, who heads the International Atomic Energy Agency. He asked for anonymity because his information was confidential.

The deal was backed by the world powers months ago. But they have criticized the offer coming now as too little too late, noting Tehran wants to continue enriching to a higher level.
