Royal officials say the newlywed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will postpone their honeymoon, after initial reports suggested they had departed Buckingham Palace to begin their vacation.

On Saturday, officials said it is the couple's "personal preference" to delay their trip, which means that Prince William will return to his military duties after the weekend.

For now, they will spend the weekend at an undisclosed location within Britain.

A statement posted on the official royal wedding website indicated that William and Kate intend to keep their weekend plans -- as well as the plans for their forthcoming honeymoon -- private.

"The couple have asked that their privacy be respected during the coming weekend and during their honeymoon," the statement said.

Prior reports had indicated that William had been granted two weeks off to attend his honeymoon, though no details were offered about where he and Kate Middleton planned to travel.

The eldest son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana had previously hinted that he and his bride might travel to Australia on his honeymoon, though no one knows for sure.

The day after the big day

Married in a lavish ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Friday, William and Kate were also treated to a series of celebratory parties at the palace that lasted into the early hours of Saturday morning.

Some of the most prominent guests -- including the bride's sister, Pippa Middleton, and Chelsy Davy, the on-off girlfriend of Prince Harry -- were seen checking into their rooms at the Goring Hotel at about 3 a.m.

Prince Harry announced plans to offer an early morning "fry up" breakfast for anyone who was still at the party, but it is unknown how many guests took him up on the offer.

The Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, were not present for the late-night festivities on Friday, choosing to retreat to another royal residence as the party raged on.

There were few signs of activity after the party wrapped up on Saturday, though Charles was up early to reclaim the rare Aston Martin Volante convertible that he loaned to William and Kate to drive to their official residence on Friday afternoon.

Royal officials also announced the release of the official wedding photographs on Saturday. Those pictures have been added to CTV.ca's latest
