BANFF, Alta. - A gripping HBO documentary about the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the big winner Monday night at the Banff World Television Festival, winning the grand prize and two other awards.

"White Light/Black Rain: The destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki" walked off with the top prize at the Banff World Television Awards dinner at the Banff Springs Hotel. It was also named best Asian program and best historical show.

Actress Kim Cattrall of "Sex and the City" fame received the NBC Universal Award of Distinction, while producer Jon Plowman accepted the festival's lifetime achievement award.

The British series "Charlie and Lola Series 3: I Can Dance Like a Dancer," won best animated program.

"Up the Yangtze," also known as "Ghosts of the Yangtze," won the award for the best Canadian program. It was produced by EyeSteelFilms in association with National Film Board of Canada. "The Real Superhumans and the Quest for the Future Fantastic" also won a prize for best Canadian program.

The best children's program was the Canadian show "How the Gimquat Found Her Song," while "Just for Laughs Extras: Episode 9" was named the best comedy show and the British show "Skins" won best continuing series.

The U.K. production "The Human Foot Print" won the best environmental program award, while the Canadian hit "Odd Job Jack" was honoured as having the best interactive program enhancements.

The best investigative and current affairs program was Britain's "Meeting the Taliban" while the U.K.'s "How To Look Good Naked" won best lifestyle program.
