HALIFAX - Demonstrators in Halifax are urging Chinese officials to stand up for human rights and end its violent crackdown on Tibet.
Several dozen people rallied today in the city's downtown core, many of whom held signs featuring silhouettes and the names of Tibetans killed during protests.
Barbara Blouin, a practising Buddhist who attended the rally, says she's angered by the "brutal treatment'' of Tibetans who are standing up for what they believe in.
Similar demonstrations were held across Canada and in other countries last week.
Human rights groups have called for a boycott of this summer's Olympic Games in Beijing.
Amnesty International has also accused China of human rights abuses.
