ST. JOHN'S, N.L - A top official hired to improve communications for the Newfoundland health board at the centre of the province's botched breast cancer testing scandal has left the organization.

Jennifer Guy, vice-president of communications for Eastern Health, stopped working at the health board as of Monday.

"I can confirm that Ms. Guy no longer works with Eastern Health, effective July 13, 2009," Eastern Health CEO Vickie Kaminski said in a statement Tuesday.

"In keeping with the practice and policy of Eastern Health, and respecting the employment relationship, we do not comment on matters between the organization and any employee."

Guy also declined to elaborate on her departure.

"I totally respect the practice and policy of Eastern Health -- that is do not comment on matters concerning employees of Eastern Health -- and I have the utmost respect for Eastern Health," she said.

Guy was appointed to the newly created position earlier this year in an effort to rebuild Eastern Health's state of communications in wake of the fallout from hundreds of flawed breast cancer tests.

In March, a public inquiry into the testing errors concluded that Eastern Health failed to properly inform patients and the public of the scope of the problems.
