Ashley Fleetwood said that director JJ Abrams personally called her husband after she and others launched a social media campaign with the hashtag #forcefordaniel.

Fleetwood has a rare form of connective tissue cancer called spindle cell sarcoma

He told NBC that he didn’t think he would make it to Dec. 18, when “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is set to be released.

The #forcefordaniel campaign had drawn support from Mark Hamill, who will reprise his role of Luke Skywalker, as well as John Boyega, who will play a new character, a Stormtrooper named Finn.
