Matthew Perry's stepfather, journalist Keith Morrison, is opening up about the âFriendsâ star months after his death at the age of 54.
Morrison was a recent guest on Hoda Kotbâs podcast â where he talked about his stepson, whose death was determined to have been the result of âacute effects of ketamine.â
The grief over losing Perry âdoesnât go away,â Morrison said.
âItâs with you every day,â he added. âItâs with you all the time.â
Perry was âlarger than lifeâ and in a really good place emotionally in the months prior to his tragic death, his stepdad said.
âHe was happy, and he said so. And he hadnât said that for a long time,â Morrison said. âItâs a source of comfort, but also he didnât get to have his third act and thatâs not fair.â
âAnd as he said himself, âIf I suddenly died, people would be shocked, but not too many people would be surprised.â And he was right.â
The actor had been very open about his struggles with substance abuse. Morrison said, âHe felt like he was beating it.â
âBut you never beat it,â he added. âAnd he knew that, too.â
A reporter known for his work with crime stories, Morrison also spoke about his relationship with Perry, saying he ânever tried to replace his dad, but I was there for him and he knew it.â
Morrisonâs comments mirrored some of those from âFriendsâ costar Jennifer Aniston, who said she texted with a âhappy and healthyâ Perry just hours before his death.
