Buckle up, âSex and the Cityâ fans, because Kim Cattrall is finally back.
A spokesperson for HBO/Max confirmed to CNN that Cattrall filmed a scene as Samantha Jones in March for the hit showâs continuation series âAnd Just Like ThatâŚâ. Like CNN, HBO is part of parent company Warner Bros. Discovery.
The New York Post was first to report the news.
This is a major turn of events given that Cattrall, who played the sex-positive, powerful publicist Jones in âSex and the Cityâ for six seasons and two movies, famously did not appear in the first season of the reboot.
âItâs odd, isnât it? I donât know how to feel about it,â Cattrall said of how Samanthaâs absence was explained in the new series. âItâs so finite for me, so it doesnât continue. This feels like an echo of the past.â
CNN has reached out to a representative for Cattrall for comment on her decision to appear in the seriesâ second season.
According to Wednesdayâs reports, Cattrallâs cameo was filmed in secrecy in March, with her name not appearing on the call sheet for the day of the shoot. She reportedly filmed the scene in a town car in a parking garage in Queens, where interiors for the series are filmed.
âAnd Just Like ThatâŚâ is a continuation of the âSex and the Cityâ series, which focused on the friendship between four women â Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Cattrallâs Jones.
Season 1 of âAnd Just Like ThatâŚâ, which premiered in December of 2021, did welcome back Parker, Nixon and Davis, with Cattrallâs character markedly absent.
In May of last year, Cattrall spoke with Variety of her decision to not participate in the reboot, citing âa great wisdom to know when enough is enough.â
âI also didnât want to compromise what the show was to me. The way forward seemed clear,â she said.
Cattrall added at the time that âI played her, and I loved her. I felt ultimately protective of her.â
She also said sheâs proud of her time as Samantha, but that for her, the decision not to reprise the role felt âclean.â
