BEIJING - Canadian Martine Dugrenier missed out on a bronze medal in 63-kilogram women's freestyle wrestling Sunday with a narrow loss to American Randi Miller.

The Montrealer was en route to becoming Canada's third wrestler to win a medal at the Beijing Olympics until Miller scored a point in the dying seconds of the decisive third period.

That tied the score 1-1 but gave Miller the period by virtue of scoring the last point.

Dugrenier earlier lost a semifinal against Kaori Icho of Japan, leaving her to compete for bronze instead of gold. She beat Hungary's Marianna Sastin in her first match and then knocked off Xu Haiyan before falling to Icho.

The 29-year-old was looking to add Olympic hardware to the gold she won at the Pan American championships earlier this year and the silver she earned at the 2007 world championships.

Icho repeated as the gold medallist, defeating Alena Kartashova of Russia by winning each of the two periods in overtime.

Meanwhile, Ohenewa Akuffo of Brampton, Ont., lost her first 72-kg match to Bulgaria's Stanka Zlateva and was relegated to the repechage. She later lost to Spain's Maider Unda with a berth in the bronze-medal match on the line.

Canadian women won a pair of wrestling medals Saturday.

Carol Huynh took gold in the 48-kilogram class while Tonya Verbeek claimed bronze in the 55-kg class.
