OTTAWA - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume Alkanater brand Tahina because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The affected product was sold in 908 g containers and distributed nationally.

The importer, Phoenicia Products Inc., of St-Laurent, Quebec is voluntarily recalling the product and the CFIA is monitoring the recall.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the affected product.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. But the bacteria can cause illnesses ranging from fevers, headache, nausea, and diarrhea to severe arthritis and sometimes fatal infections.
