Police in southwestern Ontario have arrested a man who left a detention centre after pretending to be his cellmate.

Justin Kunz, 19, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at a residence in London, Ont., according to local police.

Kunz went missing from the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre two weeks ago after "altering his appearance to look like his cellmate who was about to be released,†police said at the time.

Police also alleged that Kunz had threatened his cellmate to “be quiet when the Correction Officer came for him.â€

Ontario’s Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services said that Kunz’s exit was not considered an escape, but an “improper release.â€

Kunz now faces charges including impersonation and uttering threats, on top of previous charges for a firearms offence and mischief.

He is expected in court Thursday.

Despite his arrest, police are still asking anyone with information to call them at 519-661-5670 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
