Following a proposal from Donald Trump to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. ,there are calls to remove the business magnate's name from buildings in Toronto and Vancouver.
Toronto Coun. Josh Matlow said on Twitter that the Trump Tower should be renamed following the Republican presidential candidate’s controversial remarks.
Trump Tower is located in the city's downtown core, and includes an upscale hotel and private residences.
"Toronto is a diverse & respectful city. Donald Trump is a fascist," Matlow tweeted. "I'm writing to the owners of the Trump Tower today to make this request."

On Monday, Trump called for a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States," drawing condemnation and shock from politicians, analysts, journalists and citizens. His remarks come on the heels of two deadly mass shootings – one in San Bernardino, Calif., and the other in Paris, France.
On Tuesday afternoon, Matlow said that Toronto should try to disassociate itself from the Trump brand.
"We live in the most diverse and multicultural city in the world, or at least one of them, and I just think now that we know who Donald Trump is, and we know what kind of policies he is proposing, it is time for us to disassociate ourselves but ultimately it will be up to the owners of the building to make their choice," he told CP24.
A former prominent planner for the city of Vancouver is making a similar call.
Brent Toderian suggested on Twitter that Vancouver residents call on the owners of the Trump Vancouver building to remove the aspiring politician's name.
"As #Trump calls to ban Muslims from entering the U.S., I seriously suggest that Vancouverites call on @TrumpVancouver to remove his name," he tweeted.

This isn't the first time Trump has made headlines for comments he's made during campaign events and speeches.
Previously, Trump has suggested that if elected president, he will build a wall along the U.S.-Mexican border and force Mexico to pay for it. He has also suggested that Mexican immigrants are responsible for crime in the country .
