OTTAWA - Canada is sending $2 million in humanitarian assistance to flood-ravaged Pakistan.

International Co-operation Minister Bev Oda says the money will help more than 150,000 families severely affected by monsoon floods.

The minister says Canada is "gravely concerned" for the people in northwest Pakistan.

The money will be distributed through the Canadian International Development Agency, with $750,000 going to the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

The federation will distribute non-food items and emergency shelter materials, as well as emergency water, sanitation and health services.

The contribution also includes $1.25 million for emergency food assistance through the World Food Program.

Pakistan has been hit with the worst floods since 1929, affecting more than a million people.
