Three Canadian soldiers were injured when an improvised explosive device was detonated Wednesday near Kandahar city.
Two of the soldiers are in fair condition, while one is in critical condition.
The troops were on a foot patrol when the blast occurred, according to military spokesperson Maj. Jay Janzen.
He said the wounded soldiers were airlifted to the hospital at Kandahar Airfield, where they are being treated for their injuries.
The soldiers' names and hometowns have not been released.
They were on a so-called "framework" patrol -- a joint effort between the Afghan National Security Forces and Canadian troops to maintain security in the volatile region of Kandahar province.
The wounded soldiers are part of one of a number of small groups that are mentoring and guiding the development of Afghan National Army units.
The injuries came as NATO announced another soldier had been killed Wednesday in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province.
The soldier's nationality and details of his death have not yet been released.
