WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. - The B.C. Ferries vessel Queen of Capilano came to the aid of an injured sailor early Friday morning.

Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall says the ferry was in its berth on Bowen Island, just off West Vancouver, B.C., when the Coast Guard radioed for help with a tricky rescue.

A sail boat was being battered against rocks in shallow water nearby but the Coast Guard ship at the scene was too big to reach the stricken boat.

Marshall says the Queen of Capilano's small rescue boats were on scene within minutes, ferrying a coast guard technician to the injured man.

She says the ferry crew then waited to transport the sailor and the rescue technician back to the coast guard ship.

Marshall says the sailor appeared to have some broken bones but the rescue was flawless and the Queen of Capilano was running just 35 minutes behind its regular schedule.
