The Italian coachbuilding and bespoke vehicle creation studio is showcasing its first genuine production model -- a 1000hp+ $1 million electric supercar -- at this year's Geneva motor show.

In recent years, Touring Superleggera has garnered headlines at Geneva for bringing an automotive work of art to the show -- whether it be the Disco Volante -- its bespoke reimagining of the Alfa Romeo 8C, or the Berlinetta Lusso -- A Ferrari F12 Berlinetta in a hand-shaped aluminum and carbon fiber suit reminiscent of 1960s super GTs.

But for 2017 it's showing off an entirely new car, developed from the ground up in partnership with German sportscar company Artega, that is destined for full production.

Called the Artega Scalo Superelletra, it's pitched as an ultra-exclusive electric supercar; capable of going from 0-100km/h in 2.7 seconds, on to a top speed of 300km/h and delivering a range between charges of 500km. And, to make it stand out from a host of other EV sportscars set to come to market over the coming years, it will feature a three-seat layout like in the McLaren F1.

"We are delighted of the opportunity to design a fully electric car. There were a few challenges here, particularly in finding the right proportions for the three-seater layout," said Touring CEO Piero Mancardi.

Other obstacles include maintaining Artega's existing visual identity and, because of the car's eco-friendly positioning, developing a production process that is both carbon-neutral and that uses recyclable materials. Therefore Touring has gone for a carbon fiber chassis, a tubular steel frame and a mix of aluminum and carbon fiber body panels.

Still, doing away with the traditional internal combustion engine also opens up new design possibilities. "The innovative electric package, however, gives a higher degree of freedom and we tried to take full advantage from it," said Mancardi. "The project grew incredibly fast, with exceptional levels of mutual understanding with Artega."

The electric motors that will power the front and rear wheels chosen for the project are from Voltabox and when working in unison will give the finished car 1020hp and 1620Nm of torque. Factor in the car's kerb weight -- 1850kg, and it promises to be something very special when it debuts in full production form in spring 2019. Just 50 examples are planned that in the company's words will address "the price segment from €500,000-€1 million."
