Ford is ringing in a new era for its 2017 models sold in North America, reports The Verge. Cars sold with Ford's Sync 3 infotainment system will now also contain CarPlay and Android Auto.
The 2017 Escape will be the company's first car to receive the two platforms as well as Ford's Sync Connect system, which brings LTE wireless communication to the vehicle. The Escape is set to go on sale this spring.
Those who have already purchased 2016 Ford models can upgrade to CarPlay and Android Auto later in the year. The platforms use voice control to allow users to safely use their mobile phones and access information while driving.
The company also looks to promote upgrades to its AppLink platform -- an open, cross-platform way to link apps -- with AppLink apps able to directly access a car's data.
