NEW YORK - Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne is facing up to a year in jail in a New York City gun case this week.

It isn't clear where he'll serve his time if he's sentenced as expected Tuesday. But prison experts say that celebrities can create and face special challenges behind bars.

Rapper Foxy Brown was held in protective custody in New York in 2007 and 2008 because of threats against her while serving time on a probation violation.

Singer Diana Ross was allowed to make a trip home in 2004 while serving a two-day jail term in Connecticut.

The 27-year-old Lil Wayne admitted last fall to having a loaded gun on his tour bus in 2007. He could end up serving only about eight months with good behaviour.
