A website attacking showbiz blogger Perez Hilton that appears to have been created by Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne is a fake.
The website, , features a video clip of Lavigne purportedly welcoming fans.
"Hey welcome guys to the site, finally. Thank you so much for all of your patience well we've been getting things running, it's here online so keep checking in," Lavigne says.
However, the clip does not mention Perez Hilton, nor his site and appears to have been edited.
A welcome note on the site from 'Lavigne' states:
"I am Avril Lavigne and this is my personal message to get back at the scumbag above! Maybe you have already heard that Perez Hilton wrote bad things about me on his online Blog. I mean, he thinks in his own little world that he is the best and he makes everybody look silly on his Blog. But in reality he is the biggest silly person I've ever seen! His insults have really hurt me so please help me to kick Perez in the ass with this web site now! If you want this to happen this is the place to make it happen!"
Background check
A WHOIS search, which provides the domain name registration records of a website, shows it is registered by 'Avril Lavigne' and lists the owner's address as being in the pop princess' hometown of Napanee, Ont.
But the contact phone number of the 'owner' is actually the number for the Municipal Government Services of Greater Napanee.
"We have no knowledge and we did not register that site," Napanee town clerk Rebecca Murphy told CTV.ca. "We are investigating to remove our number from that registration.
"Her mum used to live at the address that it's registered at ... I believe it's probably somebody who's just garnered that public information and put the registration together."
Lou Robinson, a spokesperson for Lavigne's label, RCA, told MTV News that Lavigne was not behind the site.
"This has nothing to do with Avril," Robinson said in an email. "She just found out about it."
Reps for Lavigne told MTV News that steps are being taken to have the site shut down.
A call to Nettwerk Management, which represents Lavigne, was not immediately returned.
