OTTAWA - NDP Leader Jack Layton has been released from hospital, five days after surgery to mend a broken hip.
Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital says Layton was discharged this morning and is expected to make a full recovery.
The hospital says Layton has been walking and making great progress in his rehabilitation.
New Democrats insist Layton will be back on Parliament Hill and in fighting form in time for the March 22 federal budget.
The budget could trigger an election, which would put Layton's physical stamina to the test during a five-week, cross-country campaign.
Layton, who has also been undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, had been on crutches for a couple of weeks due to a micro-fracture in his hip.
