HALIFAX - An inquiry into the death of a Nova Scotia man who died 30 hours after he was Tasered watched surveillance video today of Halifax police officers shooting him with a stun gun.

Howard Hyde, dressed only in shorts, is shown in an altercation with three officers in a booking area of the Halifax police headquarters.

As he struggles, one officer fires the Taser at the 45-year-old man before Hyde gets free, jumps over a desk and tries to flee.

The officers are then seen chasing Hyde -- diagnosed as suffering from schizophrenia -- who is shot a second time in a nearby hallway, which was not seen on the video.

Earlier today, Const. Jonathan Edwards described how Hyde showed "overwhelming strength" as he struggled to get free of officers at police headquarters, where he was taken on Nov. 21, 2007, on a charge of domestic assault.

The fatality inquiry is looking into the events of Hyde's death 30 hours after he was Tasered in custody.
