Two Toronto hospitals are set to welcome the Twitterverse into their operating rooms this week, as they live-tweet colon and prostate cancer surgeries in an effort to raise awareness about men's health.
Starting at 8 a.m. ET, will be live-tweeting a surgery beginning at 8 a.m. ET.
Dr. Shady Ashamalla and his team will be providing updates, photos and short videos as they perform a laparoscopic right hemicolectomy, a minimally invasive colon cancer procedure. They will be using the hashtag #SBcancer.

Similarly, starting at 7:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, Toronto East General Hospital will begin posting 140-character updates to its account, using the hashtag #TEGHProstate.
Dr. Rajiv Singal, a urologic surgeon at the hospital, will be leading his team in a prostate cancer surgery that is expected to wrap up noon.
The live tweet surgery is being done in the spirit of "Movember," a month-long fundraising campaign that raises awareness about men's health issues.
