Health Canada and the United States Food and Drug Administration are warning consumers against purchasing two types of energy drinks on tampering fears after utility knife blades were found in two separate bottles.

In a news release issued Sunday, the FDA recalled Hardcore Energize Bullet drink, which is sold in both the U.S. and Canada, and New Whey liquid products, which are sold only in the U.S.

The FDA said a blade was found in one vial of each of the drinks. It appears that no consumers suffered injuries linked to the blades.

Both products are manufactured by Protica Inc., of Whitehall, Penn., which is investigating the incident.

Health Canada has asked Upper 49th Imports, which imports Hardcore Energize Bullet to Canada, to recall the product. The unauthorized health product is sold in Canada in two flavours: Blue Rage and Black Rush.

The drink is packaged in 85.7 mL vials and the recall involves four lot numbers: 1794, 1961, 1962 and 1963.

Health Canada said consumers can identify authorized health products by either an eight-digit Drug Identification Number (DIN), a Natural Product Number (NPN) or a Homeopathic Medicine Number (DIN-HM).
