WASHINGTON - Florida was more trick than treat for Al Gore in 2000.

Yet the former vice-president is heading to the state on Halloween to campaign for Barack Obama.

Gore and his wife, Tipper, plan to hold two rallies Friday to urge voters to cast their ballots early for the Democratic presidential nominee.

Obama's campaign says the Gores will stop in West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale.

Gore endorsed Obama in June at a campaign rally and spoke at the Democratic National Convention in August.

The Florida rallies will be the first time he has hit the trail for Obama.

A 36-day recount in Florida resulted in George W. Bush winning the state and, therefore, the White House by 537 votes over Gore in the 2000 presidential election.

"Nobody knows better that every single vote counts -- especially in Florida -- than Vice-President Al Gore," said Steve Schale, Obama's state director.
