HALIFAX - The mumps continues to spread in Nova Scotia, with 50 more cases reported in the past week.
Dr. Shelly Sarwal, a medical officer of health for the province, says 272 cases have been reported since the outbreak began in February.
That number had reached 222 last Friday, with most cases reported among university-aged patients.
Cases have also been reported in Ontario, including one young adult who spent a number of hours last week at a crowded night spot in Toronto.
In Nova Scotia, the province announced a plan last week to immunize thousands of health-care workers against the virus.
Symptoms of mumps include aches, pains, fever, loss of appetite and swollen saliva glands.
University-aged young adults make up the majority of the cases.
