CALGARY - A southern Alberta family is taking on Canada's largest natural gas producer in the province's highest court over two wells that it says are causing serious health problems.

The Graff family is hoping the Alberta Court of Appeal will overturn several decisions by the provincial energy regulator allowing EnCana Corp. (TSX:ECA) to drill and operate wells near their farm about 100 kilometres southeast of Calgary.

Barbara Graff says her family has been injured by previous oil and gas activity and are now extremely sensitive to the chemicals used and released around gas wells.

The family hopes the appeal court will send the entire issue back to the regulator and even call for a cumulative impact study of all the wells in the area.

Alberta's Energy Resources Conservation Board won't comment prior to a written ruling from the court.

EnCana says the issue is moot because the wells have been capped and are slated to be abandoned.
