ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Inaccurate information about botched cancer tests was given to Newfoundland's health minister in 2006 and that false information was repeated for months in briefing notes.

Assistant deputy health minister Moira Hennessey made the comment during testimony today at the Cameron inquiry in St. John's.

Hennessey says she remembers then-deputy minister John Abbott changing the wording in an early 2006 briefing note that sent the incorrect information to the minister.

She says the first draft of the briefing note said the external reviewers' recommendations were being implemented by Eastern Health.

But Hennessey told the inquiry that Abbott crossed off that comment and changed it to say the recommendations had already been implemented.

The Cameron inquiry is examining why 383 breast cancer patients received the wrong results from hormone receptor tests from the General Hospital from 1997 to 2005.
