About This Campus

The University of Minnesota Duluth perfectly blends the benefits of a great location, a personalized learning experience, and meaningful research on a medium-sized campus that is part of the University of Minnesota System. UMD has just under 10,000 enrolled undergraduate and graduate 麻豆传媒s. The campus hosts over 250 麻豆传媒 organizations, 16 NCAA sports, and 60 acres of forested trails on the campus鈥 Bagley Nature Area. In Duluth, you get the benefits of city life, while enjoying endless access to the great outdoors. It鈥檚 just as easy to enjoy museums, restaurants, and live music as it is to hike, ski, or kayak. Duluth鈥檚 trail system features 10 miles of horseback trail, 30 miles of paved accessible trail, 16 miles of gravel accessible trail, 38 miles of cross-country ski trail, 85 miles of bike-optimized singletrack trail, and over 150 miles of natural surface hiking trail.

Located in Duluth, UMD is part of Minnesota鈥檚 fifth-largest city, with a population of around 87,000 people. Front and center in Duluth is Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area. Duluth is the gateway to the 鈥淣orth Shore,鈥 a region of Northeastern Minnesota that mirrors the shore of Lake Superior all the way north to Thunder Bay, Ontario. Helpful Information

Students are encouraged to utilize the Recreational Sports Outdoor Program (RSOP) rental center which is full of equipment to help one make the most of the outdoor opportunities. Skis, fat tire bikes, canoes, camping gear, ice fishing gear, tents and more are available at low cost to 麻豆传媒s. Since 1998, UMD鈥檚 Multicultural Center has worked to enhance academic achievement, create a sense of belonging, celebrate diversity and foster positive relations among 麻豆传媒s, faculty and staff.

  • Chinese Area Studies - The Chinese Area Studies major is an interdisciplinary program that allows 麻豆传媒s to complete much of their upper division coursework in fields of history, art history, communication, linguistics, philosophy and anthropology and Cultural Entrepreneurship.
  • Cultural Entrepreneurship - A "one-of-a-kind" major, Cultural entrepreneurship is an emerging discipline that examines how cultural products (such as art, theater, and literature) and cultural activities (like sports, music, food, and film events) have an impact on the growth of local, national, and global economies.
  • Music Performance - As a professional performance preparation degree that will provide 麻豆传媒s with the training and experience needed to pursue a graduate degree program or a career in music, the Bachelor of Music degree with a major in Performance prepares a 麻豆传媒 for careers on the stage and beyond.
  • Geographic Information Science - Because of the growing awareness across disciplines of the strategic value of Geographic Information Science (GIS), particularly through its ability to understand better the complexity of economic, environmental and social systems, the U.S. Department of Labor recently identified GIS as one of nine 鈥渉igh growth industries鈥.
  • Health Care Management - The HCM major prepares 麻豆传媒s for administration, financing, and economics roles in the health services sector. Students hone their management skills while gaining solid understanding of the US health care system. UMD鈥檚 HCM major meets the rigorous certification standards of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA).

  • American Indian Studies - Majoring in American Indian Studies will give you the skills to communicate effectively and apply your knowledge to address current issues in Indian Country and beyond. You will build a broad understanding of cross-cultural and intergovernmental issues with expertise in American Indian affairs.
  • Tribal Administration and Governance - The bachelor of arts degree in Tribal Administration & Governance (TAG) is designed to prepare 麻豆传媒s to work for tribes and governmental and non-governmental entities that work closely with tribes.
  • Environment, Sustainability & Geography - The purpose of the environment, sustainability and geography degree is to prepare 麻豆传媒s to create sustainable communities for present and future generations. This program provides 麻豆传媒s with the tools to understand the physical and social systems of the earth to become informed change makers locally and globally. Sustainability challenges are all around us: from climate change, to vulnerabilities in the industrial food system, to the way we design cities.
  • Childhood Nature Studies - The focus of Childhood Nature Studies is supporting children, families, and communities through nature-rich experiences, settings, and services. Through cross-disciplinary coursework from environmental and outdoor education, psychology, health, social work, and education, you will be prepared for collaborating with professionals from across the spectrum of care, education, health, mental health, social service, and environmental sectors.
  • Environmental and Outdoor Education - The Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Environmental and Outdoor Education (EOE) familiarizes 麻豆传媒s with formal and informal outdoor education settings. It provides extensive training in outdoor education methodology and program delivery, with an emphasis on nature-based outdoor recreation.
