About This Campus

UIS is one of three Â鶹´«Ã½ of the University of Illinois. The UIS campus serves 4,000 Â鶹´«Ã½s in 20 graduate and 30 undergraduate programs. The academic curriculum emphasizes a strong liberal arts core, an array of professional programs, extensive opportunities in experiential education, and a broad engagement in public affairs issues of the day. The campus offers many small classes, substantial Â鶹´«Ã½-faculty interaction, and a rapidly evolving technology-enhanced learning environment. Because of its location in the state capital, there is a focus on public policy and service learning, which support our excellent credit-bearing internship program. The numerous Abraham Lincoln sites and state museums/archives provide unique opportunities for research in History, Politics, Policy, Literature, and Anthropology. Additionally, there are two biological field stations, including one tied to the Nature Conservancy's wetland reclamation project on the Illinois River at Emiquon.

Location Information

Our campus is located on the south side of Springfield on a 700 acre, open and beautifully landscaped site. It is connected to the city via bus and to the world through our Amtrak station and airport with daily train service to St. Louis and Chicago and flights to Chicago and Dallas. Interstates criss cross at Springfield which historically was on Route 66 which connected Chicago to Los Angeles (we have an annual Rt. 66 festival each fall).

Helpful Information

Exchange Â鶹´«Ã½s are assigned to an academic advisor in the department of primary interest who will help them register for classes. The NSE coordinator will also help with advising and with adjusting to campus life. All townhouses and apartments have kitchens and Â鶹´«Ã½s can also opt for one of our meal plans. The Student Union and Brookens Library provide spaces for individual or group study. There are also over 80 Â鶹´«Ã½ clubs and organizations and recreation center.
