About This Campus

The University of New Mexico is located in Albuquerque, NM, a city of over 500,000. It is noted for its dry high desert climate, with warm sunny days and cool crisp nights. The campus lies nearly a mile above sea level on a plateau overlooking the Rio Grande Valley to the West and the Sandia Mountains to the East. You can drive to the following locations in a day: Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, White Sands National Park, Chaco Canyon, Santa Fe (known for its art and culture), a number of Indian Pueblos, and several snow skiing areas. The University. Founded in 1889, The University of New Mexico grants degrees at all levels from Associate to Doctoral. The University of New Mexico is the state’s largest university with an enrollment of nearly 26,000 Â鶹´«Ã½s. UNM’s architecture is based on the traditional New Mexico Pueblo building style, which is unique and beautiful.

Location Information

The UNM Campus is located centrally in Metropolitan Albuquerque and only a few miles away from the airport, and the Sandia mountain range.

Helpful Information

Registration occurs for incoming NSE Students after existing UNM Students register. Commuting is free on the city bus system. Students must meet prerequisite requirements for courses they wish to register for.

Closed Programs
Dental Hygiene Program, Law, Medicine, Medical Technology, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy and Speech and Hearing Sciences upper-level courses.

Limitations
All art studio classes, beyond introductory courses may require a portfolio or audition. Architecture and Management courses, may be taken, but they must be approved by the department/faculty. Speech and Hearing Science courses are limited to introductory courses. Students must demonstrate fulfillment of prerequisites in order to get into certain upper-division courses. Language courses require placement. Due to popularity, Film and Digital Media Arts courses can be limited, based on demand. All online MAX courses carry a $100.00 fee. Courses within the College of Education, including exercise science can be limited.

Notes About Housing
On-campus housing is not guaranteed and is based on availability. We also have privatized housing both on and off campus which is separate from UNM Housing. Please contact Lobo Village 505-925-5575 or Casa Del Rio 505-277-1619, should you wish to live in one of those facilities. These facilities are contract-based and are ideal for Â鶹´«Ã½s who will stay at UNM all year. Students staying in Lobo Village or Casas Del Rio should inquire about single semester rates if they are only doing single-term exchange.
