REGINA - The federal Conservatives will be looking for a new candidate in the Saskatchewan riding of Palliser for the next election expected to be called shortly.

Incumbent Dave Batters has announced that he won't run again so he can focus on recovering from anxiety and depression.

Batters says on his website that he has been ill for the last few months and also had to overcome a dependency on prescribed medications.

Batter's announcement came on the same day Liberal Leader Stephane Dion announced that former Regina police chief Calvin Johnston will run in Palliser.

Johnston steps into the vacancy left by lawyer Garrett Oledzki, who stepped down as the Liberal candidate last month.

Oledzki was suspended shortly afterwards by the Law Society of Saskatchewan on grounds he may be guilty of conduct unbecoming a lawyer.
