Twitter has officially banned a user infamous for posting misogynistic posts specifically targeting 鈥淕hostbusters鈥� and 鈥淪aturday Night Live鈥� star Leslie Jones, according to reports.

The Twitter account for Milo Yiannopoulos was blocked on Tuesday, and while the user has been banned before for his inflammatory comments, that the ban is permanent.

A Twitter spokesperson told Recode and BuzzFeed that the permanent suspension is for a violation of the company鈥檚 policy regarding targeted personal attacks against users.

The decision directly stemmed from tweets Yiannopoulos posted this week that mocked Jones. and fake screenshots of homophobic tweets edited so that they appeared to be written by the actress.

In response, Jones tweeted about the personal toll of the hateful messages.

鈥淵ou have to hate yourself to put out that type of hate,鈥� she tweeted on Monday. 鈥淚 mean on my worst day I can鈥檛 think of this type of hate to put out.鈥�

Jones later called out Twitter and asked why nothing had been done to stop the cruel messages. In response, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey personally reached out to her.

The company has since released a statement regarding upcoming changes to its harassment policy:

鈥淧eople should be able to express diverse opinions and beliefs on Twitter. But no one deserves to be subjected to targeted abuse online, and our rules prohibit inciting or engaging in the targeted abuse or harassment of others. Over the past 48 hours in particular, we鈥檝e seen an uptick in the number of accounts violating these policies and have taken enforcement actions against these accounts, ranging from warnings that also require the deletion of Tweets violating our policies to permanent suspension.鈥�

鈥淲e know many people believe we have not done enough to curb this type of behavior on Twitter. We agree. We are continuing to invest heavily in improving our tools and enforcement systems to better allow us to identify and take faster action on abuse as it鈥檚 happening and prevent repeat offenders. We have been in the process of reviewing our hateful conduct policy to prohibit additional types of abusive behavior and allow more types of reporting, with the goal of reducing the burden on the person being targeted. We鈥檒l provide more details on those changes in the coming weeks.鈥�
