Music fans breathed a collective sigh of relief on Friday morning, when Meat Loaf's representatives announced that the singer's collapse at a concert in Edmonton was due to dehydration, and not a more serious ailment.
The 68-year-old rocker is in stable condition after he collapsed Thursday night, while singing his hit song "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)."
In a year in which the music world has already lost Prince and David Bowie, many on social media were bracing for the worst.
Dear 2016,
— A girl has no game (@Brindolyn)
I don't know what you want. But if you take Meat Loaf from us, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.
No 2016. You can't have Meat loaf. No more.
— Levi, Fabulous (@Velidra)
Okay.. I hope Meat loaf is okay.. But now I'm scared and nervous because we've been losing so many legends lately, Not another one, please
— M (@FancyLove3)
But while many worried for the rocker's health, others took a more light-hearted approach.
Hope Meat Loaf is ok. Was going to write a little gag (but I won't do that)

Meat Loaf collapsed on stage while performing and I just collapsed after reading Meat Loaf was still performing.

A few even cracked jokes about Robert Paulson, the character Meat Loaf played in the 1999 film "Fight Club." Meat Loaf's character is killed partway through the film, and the anarchist gang he is a part of gathers around him and chants, "His name is Robert Paulson."
I'm glad Meat Loaf didn't die because 1. He seems like a decent dude 2. I'm spared thousands of awful "His name was Robert Paulson" tweets
— Probillmatic (@UweBollocks)
When Meat Loaf does actually die, everyone's going to just say "His name was Robert Paulson" hundreds of times, right?

Meat Loaf's collapse came after he cancelled concerts in Moose Jaw, Sask. and Calgary.
