MONTREAL - With Montreal Fashion Week underway, designer Melissa Nepton is doing double duty unveiling her new signature collection and a glimpse of her line for Target.

Nepton was crowned winner of the Target Emerging Designer Award during the previous edition of Montreal Fashion Week in February. In addition to winning $25,000 and a magazine spread, the local designer earned the opportunity to design a line for Target stores opening in Quebec.

Prior to unveiling her signature collection on Tuesday night, Nepton offered a sneak peek of a trio of looks for the homegrown Target collection at the Ritz-Carlton Montreal.

Target Quebec spokesman Sebastien Bouchard said the designer drew inspiration from '60s-inspired silhouettes for the line. The 16-piece collection will range from $29.99 and $69.99 and will be carried in the retailer's 25 Quebec stores beginning on Dec. 8.

Toronto designer Sarah Stevenson earned the chance to design a line for Target stores nationwide when she was won the Toronto Fashion Incubator New Labels contest in April. Her collection is slated to arrive in Target stores next year.

The Minneapolis-based retailer first opened for business north of the border in March and is expected to open between 125 and 135 locations in Canada. Target stores in Quebec will begin opening this fall.
