The 27-year-old actress was delighted to be nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical at the 71st annual ceremony last night, but admits she was uncomfortable about the fact her show 'Girls' was making its season three debut on HBO and she wasn't at home to watch it.
She said: "It's a little funny to be here tonight. I'm overjoyed, but there's a part of me that's like, 'My baby is going off to school,' and I'm not there to see it off.' "
And Lena - who lost out to awards host and 'Parks and Recreation' star Amy Poehler in her category - planned to spent the ceremony checking social media websites to gauge the reaction to the show.
She added: "I've seen the episode so many times, for me it's all about checking Twitter, seeing what love and hostility is being thrown."
Also walking the red carpet was the show's executive producer Judd Apatow, who said he was hoping 'Girls could "defeat" the awards ceremony in the ratings.
He joked: "We're right up against the Globes. So we're going to the Globes, but also we want to defeat the Globes!"
