One of Americaâs most popular anchormen is coming to Canada as Ron Burgundy joins the TSN sports desk next month.
Burgundy, played by comedian and actor Will Ferrell, has gained a cult-like following after the success of his first movie âAnchorman: The Legend of the Ron Burgundyâ in 2004.
The popular newsman will join TSNâs team of broadcasters starting in December â although his role beyond that has not yet been made clear.
Commenting on his upcoming gig, the anchor responded in classic Burgundy fashion: âThis is going to end terribly.â
The San Diego native, best known for his polyester suits and 1970s moustache, is no stranger to Canada -- and even offered his support to embattled Toronto mayor Rob Ford.
In an interview with Conan OâBrien on Wednesday, Burgundy said he had great respect for the infamous mayor.
âMy dear, dear, dear friend mayor Rob Ford of Toronto is running for re-election and I hold him in the highest regard, he is the best!â Burgundy said.
âHeâs controversial because heâs so damn honest,â he added.
Burgundy even agreed to sing Fordâs upcoming re-election campaign song and serenaded the audience with a cover of the 1981 hit âWorking for the Weekendâ by Canadian band Loverboy.
Burgundy is currently promoting his new movie âAnchorman 2: The Legend Continuesâ which opens on Dec. 20.
Details surrounding Burgundyâs new role on TSN will be revealed during networkâs live broadcast of the 101st Grey Cup this Sunday.
