Andrew Garfield says he'd '100%' be into playing Spider-Man again

Share

It鈥檚 entirely in the realm of possibility that we could one day see Andrew Garfield dangling from a skyscraper as Spider-Man again.

This according to the actor himself, who told Esquire in an interview published on Wednesday that he鈥檇 鈥100 percent come back鈥 to reprise his iteration as the beloved, web-slinging superhero.

He鈥檇 return, he said, 鈥渋f it was the right thing, if it鈥檚 additive to the culture, if there鈥檚 a great concept or something that hasn鈥檛 been done before that鈥檚 unique and odd and exciting and that you can sink your teeth into.鈥

Garfield succeeded Tobey Maguire in the role of Peter Parker/Spider-man, and while his first outing opposite Emma Stone in 2012鈥檚 鈥淭he Amazing Spider-Man鈥 was very well-received, the sequel two years later was met with a much cooler reception.

The reception was so cold, in fact, that a third installment of the franchise was shelved by Sony, the film鈥檚 studio, and the return of Garfield鈥檚 Spider-Man at the time was left in limbo 鈥 or, as he described it to Esquire, was 鈥渓eft dangling.鈥

But Garfield did find his way back into his Spidey suit when he made a surprise extended cameo in 2021鈥檚 鈥淪pider-Man: No Way Home鈥 alongside Maguire and Tom Holland, who succeeded Garfield in the role.

His and Maguire鈥檚 appearances in the film were met with much enthusiasm from the 鈥淪pider-Man鈥 fandom and beyond, making 鈥淣o Way Home鈥 the top-grossing film of that year.

Being able to inhabit the character once again in the film, Garfield said, 鈥渨as really healing for me.鈥

鈥淚 love that character, and it brings joy,鈥 he added. 鈥淚f part of what I bring is joy, then I鈥檓 joyful in return.鈥

It鈥檚 too soon to tell if 鈥淭he Amazing Spider-Man 3鈥 is finally becoming a reality, but if it does, it鈥檚 pretty safe to say that many will be quite joyful.
