ORANJESTAD, Aruba - Authorities flew a Dutch man back to the Caribbean after he was re-arrested in the Netherlands as a suspect in the disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway.
Joran van der Sloot arrived by plane in Aruba late Friday and authorities took him in a car with tinted windows straight from the runway to a jail in the Dutch Caribbean island.
"We were not allowed to talk to him at all,'' van der Sloot's mother, Anita, told The Associated Press on Saturday. "We find this very strange. It's like you don't have human rights.''
Aruba prosecutor Hans Mos said van der Sloot, 20, will appear before a judge Monday in a closed hearing as authorities seek to hold him for at least eight more days while pursuing the case against him and two other suspects, brothers Satish and Deepak Kalpoe.
Mos told CNN on Saturday that authorities are working under the assumption that the American teen is no longer alive.
"I think we have enough evidence to be able prove she is dead,'' Mos said. "Whether that will be proved beyond a reasonable doubt ... it's very hard to assess what a judge will say about this. But we have evidence that she is dead .''
Holloway, of Mountain Brook, Ala., was last seen leaving a bar with van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers on May 30, 2005, hours before she was scheduled to return home with high school classmates celebrating their graduation in Aruba. She was 18 at the time.
Van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers have denied involvement in her disappearance and a judge previously released them from custody for lack of evidence.
Prosecutors announced they had been re-arrested Wednesday, citing new evidence that has not been disclosed. A judge on Friday ruled there was enough evidence to hold the Kalpoe brothers -- Deepak is 24, Satish, 21 -- for the initial eight-day period.
Prosecutor Dop Kruimel told The Associated Press that investigators have evidence from cellphone calls and text messages between the brothers and van der Sloot.
