MONTREAL - Gilles Duceppe has devoted a portion of the last day of the campaign to what has long been a near-guarantee for the Bloc Quebecois -- his own Montreal riding.

The Bloc leader has held the downtown riding of Laurier-Sainte-Marie since 1990, but the latest polls suggest even his own seat is in jeopardy.

Duceppe didn't want to speculate Sunday on possible outcomes, predicting that his supporters would vote in larger numbers than expected.

"I'm always concerned about results as long as they're not known," he said. "I have to work until the very end."

The veteran politician said he ran an honest campaign and talked about issues important to Quebecers, unlike the other parties.

"I think we are the only party that is defending the interests of Quebec and we are defending them in our national language for Quebec," he said.

On Sunday, Duceppe also planned to participate in a march for International Workers' Day and campaign in and around Montreal.
