QUEBEC - Liberal Leader Stephane Dion wants Prime Minister Stephen Harper to demand the resignation of his secretary of state of foreign affairs and international trade.

Dion, who is just back from Afghanistan, said today that Helena Guergis made a very serious error by making public the itinerary of the visiting Canadian delegation.

He says Guergis announced last Saturday that he and deputy Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff would be visiting the reconstruction team.

Dion says the action threatened not only their safety, but the Afghan and Canadian military who were accompanying them.

Speaking in Quebec City, he also reiterated that Canada's military involvement in Afghanistan should end in February 2009, but that Ottawa should continue to provide humanitarian aid and help to train Afghan soldiers and police.
