CALGARY - The chief executive officer of Suncor says he's certain the company will return to Libya.
Rick George says the first priority is to make sure it's safe for employees to go back to the war-torn North African country.
But he says Suncor's (TSX:SU) Libyan assets in the prolific Sirte Basin are attractive and still hold a lot of upside for investors.
George says there has been no reliable information what damage, if any, the operations may have sustained in the fighting, and the company will need to put people on the ground to find out more.
Suncor pulled its employees from Libya in February, when fighting erupted between Moammar Gadhafi's forces and anti-government rebels.
Rebels took control of the capital, Tripoli, last month and senior Gadhafi loyalists have reportedly fled to neighbouring Niger.
