TORONTO - A new Canadian-U.S. TV series is set to explore the furthest reaches of the universe.

"Defying Gravity," will follow the trials of eight astronauts on a mysterious six-year, international space mission.

The hour-long series is a co-venture between CTV and Fox Television Studios in the United States.

It will star Ron Livingston and production is set to begin next year in Vancouver.

Canadian producers say the series will air on CTV and SPACE, and has also been picked up in the U.K. by the BBC and in Germany.

The show was created by "Grey's Anatomy" writer James Parriott and is executive produced by Michael Edelstein of "Desperate Housewives."
