Environment Canada issued a on Sunday for the Metro Vancouver, warning of heat and poor air quality.

Temperatures which reached above 30 degrees on Saturday will rise another few degrees over the Labour Day long-weekend.

“An unseasonably strong ridge of high pressure will continue to build over British Columbia today and Monday,†said Environment Canada in its statement.

Meteorologist Greg Pearce told Â鶹´«Ã½ Vancouver, “These temperatures are significantly above normal for this time of year.â€

As wildfires continue to burn in the B.C. Interior and south of the border, air quality is also a concern in the Vancouver area.

“It’s too early to tell exactly how much smoke we’re going to get,†he said. “Basically, we’re probably going to get it from both directions.â€

Although, Environment Canada said that with the developing wind pattern, the wildfire smoke is expected to make its way out to the coast starting Sunday night.

According to Environment Canada, the hot weather is expected to last until at least Wednesday.

This summer has been the seventh driest on record for Vancouver, which only saw about half the rainfall usually recorded between June and August.
