FREDERICTON -- The University of New Brunswick Student Union says its website was hacked Monday after messages in support of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant were posted in place of its usual content.

Student president Greg Bailey says the problem was noticed Monday evening and it took their website provider about two hours to correct.

Bailey says the website only provides information about the student union and doesn't contain any personal information.

He says the hacker attack was on a server belonging to the website provider and affected dozens of websites across North America.

Alicia Morehouse, a spokeswoman for the Fredericton police, says it is investigating.
