Toronto Police issued a brief statement on behalf of the family of Candice Rochelle Bobb to say Bobb’s infant boy, born on May 15, died Sunday evening.

“The family has asked the media to respect their privacy,†the statement said.

The baby had been in critical condition in hospital since his delivery by emergency C-section.

Bobb, 35, of Mississauga, Ont., has been 20 weeks pregnant and sitting in the vehicle’s back seat when shots were fired into the car. She was struck in the chest and pronounced dead in hospital.

The baby’s chances of survival , given how early he was delivered and the circumstances of his delivery.

Police did not have any updates Sunday night on the murder investigation.

Police Chief Mark Saunders said at the time that the shooting was "solvable," provided those with information spoke out. He said that there was “no doubt†in his mind that the shooter is talking about the crime.

“And whoever they’re talking to, we want them to talk to us,†Saunders said, adding, “Public outrage will not be enough."

There have been 30 homicides in Toronto so far this year. There were 56 in 2015.
