MONTREAL - Quebec's appeal court will hear the prosecution's challenge of the verdict against a man found not criminally responsible for killing his two children.
The jury's verdict in the case of Guy Turcotte provoked outrage in Quebec.
The former cardiologist was granted his release from a psychiatric institution late last year -- less than four years after the stabbing deaths.
The release prompted Ottawa to give courts new powers to lock up people found not criminally responsible for their crimes due to mental problems.
Turcotte admitted to stabbing his young children 46 times.
But he said he didn't remember doing it, didn't want to do it and had experienced blackouts on the night of the killings.
The Crown's appeal will be heard this fall.
