HALIFAX -- Lawyers for former residents of the Nova Scotia Home for Colored Children return to court today in Halifax.

They will respond to the government's attempt to have portions of affidavits from the alleged abuse victims dismissed.

The affidavits are part of a proposed class-action lawsuit launched against the government by about 155 former residents of the home, who say they suffered years of sexual, physical and psychological abuse by staff at the home.

Meanwhile, a judge has tentatively approved a five-million-dollar settlement between the orphanage and the former residents.

Ray Wagner, a lawyer representing the residents, says the final OK is pending approval from the Children's Aid Society in the Annapolis Valley.

In April, the home agreed to pay the money to the plaintiffs after they launched a class-action lawsuit two years ago.
